Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet, Prime Minister of Cambodia Inspects Stung Prek Thnot Irrigation and Flood Control Project

On the morning of June 14, Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet, Prime Minister of Cambodia, inspected Stung Prek Thnot Irrigation and Flood Control Project, which is funded by preferential buyer credit that provided by the Chinese government through The Export-Import Bank of China. H.E. Thor Chetha, Minister of Water Resources and Meteorology of Cambodia, and Mr. Han Dianfeng, General Manager of Guangdong Foreign Construction Co., Ltd., the Contractor, attended the activity.
During the inspection, Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet went to the project site and was briefed about Stung Prek Thnot Irrigation and Flood Control Project. He extended his regards to the front-line workers of the Contractor and delivered a speech.
Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet said, “The Royal Government of Cambodia is committed to the construction of projects to improve the people's livelihoods. By the construction of Stung Prek Thnot Irrigation and Flood Control Project, not only can the land on both banks of the project be protected from floods and the flooded fields be saved, but also the farmland can be irrigated, providing people with water for daily lives, agricultural and tourism development purposes, etc. It is a project in the public interest that benefits the people.”
Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet stressed that Stung Prek Thnot Irrigation and Flood Control Project was one of the projects with a good image among the projects that he inspected today. He was very pleased to see that the construction of the project was progressing smoothly, and he thanked all the people involved in the construction of the project for their hard work and contributions.
Stung Prek Thnot Irrigation and Flood Control Project is located in the lower reaches of Stung Prek Thnot in the suburbs of Phnom Penh. The project aims to solve the problem of flood control of both banks of the lower reaches of Stung Prek Thnot, meanwhile, to restore and construct new canals as flood diversion passageway as well as irrigation canals. After its completion, the project will mitigate flooding in Phnom Penh and Kandal province in the lower reaches of Stung Prek Thnot in east of National Road No.3, reduce flood disasters, improve the utilization rate of farmland, and increase grain output. Since its commencement in January 2022, the project is 95% completed so far, and it is expected to be completed in August this year to give full play to the project's benefits.
