Minister of Water Resources and Meteorology of Cambodia Visited Dang Kambet Reservoir Development Project in Kampong Thom Province Undertaken by GDFC

On Aug 24, 2014, H.E. Thor Chetha, Minister of Water Resources and Meteorology of Cambodia, accompanied by important government members of each level, visited the Dang Kambet Reservoir Development Project undertaken by GDFC in Srae Khsach Village, Dang Kambet Commune, Sandan District, Kampong Thom Province. The project is funded by Concessional Loan of the Export-Import Bank of China.
The Dang Kambet Reservoir Development Project, with a construction period of 48 months, is scheduled to be completed in October, 2027. The length of the dam is 2,680m, including left bank earth dam 1,136m, right bank earth dam 1,188m, overflow concrete dam 306m, and non-overflow concrete dam 50m. The access road is 16.6km in length and 7m in width, including 3.1km for access road to the dam on left bank, 10.5km for expanded access road, and 3km for access road to the dam on right bank.
The Minister said, the construction of Dang Kambet Reservoir Development Project highlighted the great importance attached to water resources management and governance by the Royal Government of Cambodia under the wise leadership of Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet, Prime Minister of Cambodia. After completion, the Project will guarantee water source safety well, provide irrigation for downstream farmland and increase local agricultural productivity. Moreover, the Project will ensure integrated use on multiple purposes, especially in daily life, industry, agriculture, tourism, etc.
During the inspection, the Minister highly appreciated the construction progress, and required the construction team to continue focusing on technical standards and quality, and promote the work to be completed as scheduled. He also asked local authorities to keep on providing close support to ensure efficient and smooth construction, and to guarantee sufficient water supply for local crop planting and domestic use at the same time.
It is notable that the total construction work has been completed by 41.81% by now. The project, after completion, will irrigate around 131,323 hectares of farmland downstream, and the rice yield of Baray District, Sandan District, Stoung District, and Kampong Svay District in Kampong Thom Province will be increased from 4 ton per hectare to 5.4 ton per hectare by then.
